I was in the city of Chicago with a Calvary Commission
team reaching out to people with God’s love and hope for their lives.
One night I met a young man named Johnny. He was like many of the young
men on the inner-city streets. He had fallen victim to drugs and a life of
crime. It was a very cold night and I was talking to Johnny about his need
for God. I invited him into the church to warm up and talk more about God,
but he just laughed, taking his need for God lightly.
As we continued to visit on the street, a young boy came up with a toy
pistol and pointed it at Johnny, "Bang - Bang" Johnny laughed
and said, "He got me." I took the opportunity to ask him,
"What if that had been real? What if you die tonight? Let’s go in
and talk about it." Still, he wasn’t ready.
Not much time passed by when a prostitute approached us. She was very
upset and angry with Johnny and threatened that someone was looking for
him. Again, Johnny assured me that he was not ready to give his laugh to
Jesus Christ. Only moments later, another man came running around the
corner and grabbed Johnny by his coat and I saw a knife being pulled out
of his stomach.
Johnny fell to the snow covered ground; his head was in the street with
the rest of his body on the sidewalk. I put my coat under his head to
comfort him. What more I could do to help him? Now, for Johnny, it was
truly too late. He would never have an opportunity to talk to anyone about
his need for God. Ready or not, he was dying. He looked at me and said
softly, "Help me!" as he breathed his last breath.
It was truly too late for this young man Johnny, but you can turn to
God and receive His forgiveness and help in your life. Before it is too
late, open the door of your heart and invite Jesus to be your Saviour.
The Bible, the Word of God, says that Jesus Christ is the substance and
source of life. For this reason and others, we truly find God in our
lives.
In John 10:10, the Bible says that "the thief cometh but for to
steal, kill, and destroy: I am come that they might have life."
As hard as we try, we cannot have life’s best until we first open our
heart to God.
Our great God, by the very life and death of His Son, has provided
forgiveness of sin and fullness of life. We must only acknowledge our need
and turn to Him.
God very much desires to help every person. He is our creator and above
all others loves each of us. The Bible teaches that we have all sinned.
The good news is that God, by the life and death of His Son, Jesus Christ,
provides forgiveness of sin. If you desire to turn to God and experience
this forgiveness. Then follow the steps provided on the following pages:
ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR SIN
Luke 18:3 The man standing afar off would not lift up so much of
his eyes unto Heaven, but smote upon his breast saying, "God be
merciful to me, a sinner." Now THINK in your heart of
the ways you have sinned against God.
CONFESS YOUR SIN
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sin, HE is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins. Now PRAY and tell God you know you have
sinned against Him; Name those sins that come to your mind; Ask Him
now to forgive you.
REPENT AND FORSAKE YOUR SIN
Isaiah 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous
man his thoughts; Let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy
on him.
Now, You must be willing, with God’s help, to stop those
things that you know to be wrong. If you ask God to help you, He is
able.
BELIEVE
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that
whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life.
Now Thank God for His Son and forgiveness; choose to believe
that he has forgiven; choose to believe that he has forgiven you. The
Christian life is a life of faith.
RECEIVE
John 1:12 But as many as received him, them gave he POWER to
become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
Now Receive the Power; God will live in your heart and help you
to live this new Christian life.
As a new Christian it is important that you become a part of a local
church. God has not called you to stand alone. The church family will
help you to grow in Christ.
It is important for you now make contact with a Bible believing
Christian church in your area.
