It is not what you have in your pocket that makes you thankful, but what you have in your heart!1 Thess 5:18: In everything give thanks. for this is the will of God. Eph 5:20: Giving thanks always for all things unto God. A little boy said, "Salt is what always spoils potatoes when it is left out!" Using the same kind of negative definition, we can say "Ingratitude is what spoils life when it is left out." A truthful thankful Spirit enables one to praise God even when circumstances are difficult and unpleasant. Alexander Whyte, the famous Scottish preacher, invariably began his public prayers with an expression of gratitude. One cold rainy day when his people wondered how he could be grateful for the weather. He began by saying, "We thank thee, O Lord, that it is not always like this." An appreciative heart brightens a dreary day and shortens the longest night!
